      ASCII Art

      ASCII art is a means of creating pictures from text characters. It is frequently used in e-mail and NNTP postings, since it is much easier to transmit than image formats such as JPEG or GIF, and many users still find it difficult to translate an enclosure into a viewable image. ASCII art, on the other hand, may be viewed by any newreader.


      Audio

      This directory contains sound files recorded in AIFF audio format (in various levels of quality). Most of the sound files are very brief ("sound-bites," if you will) and are especially suitable for alert noises, reminder beeps, etc.


      Backgrounds

      This collection includes tileable images perfect for the backgrounds of World-Wide Web pages, but could be compatible with any major format of multimedia project. This page contains a small engine to preview the background image on a Web page with the codes for a palette of colors, so you can choose colors for text and other graphics which complement the background well.


      Clip Art

      This is a collection of public-domain small pieces of artwork and icons that can be put on Web pages or in other documents free of charge. This collection includes many images in the EServer's own collection, as well as links to other servers' collections of icons and small images.


      Hypermedia

      This collection includes longer works of hypertext and interactive multimedia: narratives in words, pictures and sound that incorporate non-linear hyperlinks between pieces of the work itself (or, often, to other works elsewhere on the Internet.)


      Maps

      This is a collection of different kinds of maps (geographical, radar, regional, national and international) of different parts of the world -- some contemporary, and many from past centuries.


      Soundtracks

      This collection publishes a wide selection of MOD soundtracks, constructed by amateur music listeners across the Internet for public exchange, along with links to many sites for exchanging MOD files.


      Video

      This collection is made up of a variety of QuickTime movies of various lengths, as well as links to QuickTime video-player software.
